WATCH HIM...WIN!

Debut victory for promising colt

Watch Him.jpg

WATCH HIM (Elvstroem) broke his maiden on debut in fine style at Chantilly on Tuesday, on the all-weather track in the Prix du Beauvaisis. Owned in association by Antoine Gilibert, whose colours he carries, Alexander Tamagni, Haras Du Ma and Fabrice. Bred by Antoinette Tamagni's Haras de Saint Julien, WATCH HIM is a half brother to dual Gr1 heroine WATCH ME and was bought as a yearling by agent Amanda Skiffington at the Arqana October Yearling Sale in 2019 for €100,000.

Ridden by French Champion jockey Pierre-Charles Boudot, he sat in 4th position on the outside in this 8-runner newcomers race over a mile. A decent pace was set by KARKHOV (Lope de Vega), who took a three-length lead in the back straight from the racing pack. In the bend, WATCH HIM was shuffled back into fifth position, and Boudot gave him some light encouragement to pick up his pace off the turn. Once in the straight, the 3-year-old colt switched legs, and came progressively up the outside to join the leaders with 250 meters left to run. Under a hands and heels ride from Boudot, he passed his final challenger, CERULEAN (Siyouni), in the closing 100 meters, with a strong finish from ZAFFONIX BAY (Zoffany) to snatch second place coming too late to trouble him. WATCH HIM won, easing down, by 1 and 1/4 lengths. An ideal learning experience for this promising young colt. The all-weather track at Chantilly racecourse has provided invaluable opportunities to debut the 3-year-olds early in the season and importantly, close to home since it's installation in 2011. Less than ten minutes from the yard, the horses are also able to work in the mornings on the all-weather track throughout the winter.
