GATSBY EN ROUTE TO GLORY
------------
Not only is Antoinette Tamagni’s homebred Master Gatsby (The Grey Gatsby) extremely handsome, but the chestnut colt is proving to be quite talented on the racecourse too and put up an excellent display when landing the Prix Des Sequoias (Class 2) at Fontainebleau on Wednesday.
Another winning produce to come from Tamagni’s beloved Haras de Saint Julien, Master Gatsby is out of the very talented race mare Moonee Valley and much like his dam, the three-year-old possesses an extremely tenacious attitude.
The three-year-old carries the silks of PG Racing Club, a group of lady owners spearheaded by Antoinette Tamagni, who were also in the winner’s enclosure at Deauville last month with the progressive filly Sweetheart.
Stepping up to 2,600m for the first time, Master Gatsby was relaxed throughout the race and produced an impressive turn of foot to win under jockey Ioritz Mendizabal. Now a winner on two of his six career starts, the gelding boasts a lofty rating following an excellent fourth place finish in the Gr.3 Prix Noailles last month and now we know that he stays longer distances, our options for a second attempt in stakes company have broadened.
As we enter such an important period in the calender, it is brilliant to see the team at Chappet Racing in tremendous form over recent weeks, with Master Gatsby claiming the yard’s 22nd victory of the season.
