ONESTO –  A GR.1 CHAMPION

------------

A horse that showed plenty of promise since he first stepped foot into the yard, the team at Chappet Racing are extremely proud of the dizzy heights reached by ONESTO (Frankel) throughout the 2022 season.

Owned in partnership by some of the sport’s powerhouses, Onesto has danced every dance throughout the season and has supplied many unforgettable moments to his owners Gerard Augustin-Normand, Jean-Etienne Dubois, Ecurie Hunter Valley, Haras d’Etreham, Ecurie Billon, Ecurie Elag and Hubert Guy.

An imposing type who was bred by Diamond Creek Farm, Onesto originally passed through the ring for €185,000 as a yearling in 2020, before being knocked down to Hubert Guy for $535,000 at Ocala on April 23rd 2021, where he was consigned by Wavertree Stables.

Once recruited to Chappet Racing, Onesto wasted no time in making his presence felt on the racecourse and landed his maiden by just under three lengths at Chantilly five months later.

Running only the twice in his two-year-old campaign, Onesto followed up on his debut success with a game second placed effort behind the subsequent Gr.3 winner Welwal, which allowed connections devise a Classic plan for 2022.

Needing his comeback run in the spring, the February-born colt then stepped up to 2000m successfully when taking the Gr.2 Prix Greffuhle at Saint-Cloud. Found out when finishing fifth behind Vadeni in the Jockey Club, Onesto then let his class shine when landing the Gr.1 Grand Prix de Paris in July, this time over 2400m.

Currently rated 55 (118 UK), Onesto then went on to finish an agonisingly close second behind Luxembourg in the Gr.1 Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown, before struggling to handle the conditions when finishing in the middle of the peloton in this seasons Gr.1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at ParisLongchamp.

A true champion, Onesto works his way through each one of his races from the back of the field. His willingness, his ability and his turn of foot are trait that very few possess and the team at Chappet are looking forward to this year’s Japan Cup, where he will be lining up!
